If it did it would certainly ruin many U.S. military rifles. When I was in the army, we cleaned our M1 if we brought them out of the gate and watched them, then clean them again because Sgt. said they were not clean. Military guns are cleaned in a month more than most hunters their own in a year. A metal rod cleaning is not enough important concern.
