Need help with my research on World War II apparel and uniforms. (If you know of any links or info I would appreciate it)
Let me start by saying that I am quite picky when it comes to historical accuracy in many details. I write a story today of a young man (private) in the United States Army at the beginning of the Second World War ( Preferably, he will end up fighting at Midway, I think, but I'm not positive. Let's just say he is fighting in the Pacific later in 1942.) I know that all Military Equipment and clothing that had a soldier in the Pacific during D-Day (44), but I wonder if I need to bring changes to this list (eg is it the wrong equipment. for the U.S. Army, were the articles had been given only after 1943, etc.) w M1 helmet cover camo / poncho, jacket twill, Mark II fragmentation grenade, bandolier, Kabar knife and scabbard, sling ammunition, Herringbone twill trousers, M1 rifle w / bayonet M1. I am also struggling to find that his uniform would look like on leave. I'm at my wits end and need help for my research. Can anyone help me?
These links make the difference between grades, etc. The first also gives descriptions of the "civil" dress, if you're interested. The last link has photos of various branches, ranks, etc., not only for the U.S. Army, but for other countries as well, so you can ensure you have an accurate description of the other uniforms. Happy writing!
