Your first 5K race is always the most memorable. Here are some tips on how to get a good idea.
You should not try to run as fast as you can. You are most likely not be able to support the effort, which leads to burnout. Riders call Affectionately this hit the wall or bonking. What you should do is plan for the race and finish strong and proud, no arrival time in mind. If you are categorical to finish in a while, then before the race starts, you must train at a pace that is ten to fifteen seconds slower than you actually intend to run the race.
Do not be afraid to finish last. You'll probably end up in the middle crowd. And even if you do, the last finisher normally receives the largest applause. You can pat yourself on the back to do more than the thousands if not millions of people in your town yet in bed or sitting on their butts watching the morning news as they go hog wild bacon, eggs and pancakes.
Watch the weather when you get up in the morning. If it is raining or windy, wear a light jacket and waterproof baseball cap, preferably something that you can afford take off and discard once you start to heat up. Alternatively, you can wear a garbage bag with holes cut for your arm. Then you can discard once the race starts.
